CPU Steal % in Infrastructure

The CPU graph on the Compute page inside the New Relic Infrastructure tab now shows “CPU Steal %” in addition to CPU System, I/O Wait, and User %s.

CPU Steal Time: In a virtually-hosted environment, CPU cycles are shared across virtual machines on the servers. If your virtual instance displays a high CPU Steal %, it could mean that the hypervisor is taking CPU cycles from it to serve other purposes.

At the simplest level, if you’re seeing a high CPU Steal % that starts impacting your application’s performance, we recommend redeploying that app in a larger instance.
