Feature Idea: Export Dashboard to json file via button on dashboard for the owner

#1

Would be beneficial in the short term to allow a dashboard owner via a button on the dashboard itself to export the dashboard to a json file.
I know it’s available via the API Explorer, but having a button on the dashboard itself would be very useful if looking to copy dashboard from one account to another.

New Relic Edit

  • I want this too
  • I have more info to share (reply below)
  • I have a solution for this

We take feature ideas seriously and our product managers review every one when plotting their roadmaps. However, there is no guarantee this feature will be implemented. This post ensures the idea is put on the table and discussed though. So please vote and share your extra details with our team.

HI @LAMBERT - The functionality exists within the UI to copy Insights dashboards between accounts. Can you describe how your requirement differs?

#3

Hi Stefan so currently you can copy individual widgets, but not the whole dashboard.
So ideally would wish to copy the complete dashboard to different accounts.

Sorry, the documentation took me to the wrong link. Here is the correct link:

https://docs.newrelic.com/docs/insights/use-insights-ui/manage-dashboards/copy-insights-dashboards-charts

#5

Still doesn’t allow to copy complete dashboard to another account. :slightly_smiling_face:

#6

The user permissions may prevent you from copying the dashboard, and it only works for multiple accounts under the New Relic subscription

https://docs.newrelic.com/docs/insights/use-insights-ui/manage-dashboards/insights-dashboard-permissions

#7

Not a permission issue the functionality just does not exist. Hopefully New Relic will take this on board as I would assume it’s a relatively straight forward request to implement

#8

@LAMBERT - You should be able to get the Dashboard JSON from the Dashboards API

https://docs.newrelic.com/docs/insights/insights-api/manage-dashboards/insights-dashboard-api

Let me know if that works for you.

#9

Yes I know you can do that as I stated in my original post but having an export button would make life easier

#10

Understood! I’ll get a feature idea submitted internally here for you, to get a export button added.
