Feature Idea: NRI Integrations inside a container

I have sent in a support ticket for this and they have asked me to create a feature request here.

Our use-case:
Running redis/nginx/elasticsearch services in containers which should be monitored by Infrastructure

It would be nice to have the NewRelic Infrastructure Integrations inside a container.
eg: install the nri- as a sidecar container so that can be monitored.

New Relic Edit

  • I want this too
  • I have more info to share (reply below)
  • I have a solution for this

Hey @daniel.kraaij - Thanks for posting your feature idea here - I’ll go ahead and get a poll added to your post for others to vote on.

Does anyone know if there is a workaround or recommended way to do this for now?

Running 4 k8s clusters in AKS for 2 different companies, total of 30 nodes or so. Running redis, mysql, mongodb, rabbitmq, nginx in all of them. Would love to be able to use the “on-host integrations” for all these apps, but it doesn’t look like we can do that if they’re running in containers? Is that still the case?

I’ve actually been toying with the idea to setup either a centralised StatsD broker with the statsd-infra-backend or add the statsd-infra-backend as a sidecar container and pushing all the statistics through statsd to NewRelic.
Perhaps this is something you could do?

thanks for that @daniel.kraaij
