It seems like the data New Relic collects could be used to generate load for load tests. Instead of creating artificial load scripts based on what processes we think users perform, wouldn’t actual production statistics be a better way to model load? Is there anything like that already out there?

You should definitely use the data and analytics from New Relic to inform your load testing. With New Relic you can easily see which pages users are hitting and what ratios they are hitting various pages, and to some extent. even what they did on that page. Your “Page Views” on your load test should look very similar to the one on your load test. But, it is not trivial to create something like a dump of all the requests that New Relic sees and replay them through a load test environment.
