Insights only showing fraction of transactions reported by apm

It appears the transaction counts reported by apm are actually a ‘metric’ under the hood, which is fine, but when I go to see those transactions as events grouped by my custom attributes in insights, I’m only seeing about 8% of them.

Why is this happening? How do people observe event counts grouped by custom attributes in insights without losing a ton of data?

My NRQ is

SELECT count(*) from Transaction where appName = ‘my app name’ facet myCustomAttribute TIMESERIES
