Introducing new open beta version of the Windows Services integration

Announcing Windows Services integration new version

This week we have launched a new beta of our Windows Services Integration. From this version we open our new beta to all of our customers.

What’s included in this new version?

  • Internal improvements regarding entity creation in New Relic. These updates will allow our Windows Service integration to work with our new adopted standards within the company.
  • We’ve solved some performance issues which caused the integration to stop working and sending data to New Relic.
  • The new naming for entities, metrics and attributes adopts new open standards.

How to migrate from the current version to the new one?

Is there any deadline to migrate?

The current Windows Service beta integration will only be supported for a limited period of time. From October 31, 2021 the existing beta version will stop working.

How can I migrate?

Because the Windows Service integration is bundled with the Windows infrastructure agent, you just need to update the agent to the latest version.

For more information on how to update the agent check these instructions.

Changes on entities, metrics and metadata naming

In this new version we’ve adopted the open standards naming convention.

A new dashboard will be assigned to the new version. You won’t notice any changes unless you have a customised dashboard or alert.

Here’s a list of changes in metrics names

Old name New name
windowsService.service.startMode windows_service_start_mode
windowsService.service.state windows_service_state
windowsService.service.status REMOVED

Also a list of changes in metadata names

Old name New name
windowsService.displayName display_name
windowsService.entityName entity.name
windowsService.hostname hostname
windowsService.name service_name
windowsService.processId process_id
windowsService.runAs run_as

IMPORTANT : From today you will see your current “Windows Services” entities renamed as “ Legacy Windows Services”. Entities monitored by the new beta version will be created as usual with “Windows Services” name.

“Legacy Windows Services” entities monitored by the old beta version will disappear in 1-2 days.

For more information visit our Windows Service integration documentation.
