Mobile APM: Changes coming soon to improve our Android stack trace deobfuscation!

What’s coming?

Changes are coming to the New Relic service that handles Android stack deobfuscation to make Crash and Handled Exception stack traces more accurate after retracing. In the next couple of weeks, we will release these fixes to production! Please check back here for the actual release date!

What should I expect to see after this is released?

You may see more frames as well as frames with more accurate information in your stack traces via the Crash and Handled Exception pages. These changes may also mean you receive a flurry of new crash emails. It’s ok, your app is not crashing more than it already was! It’s because we are now using a better algorithm to deobfuscate your stack traces and this will only be a temporary effect of the changes!

What do I have to do to get these changes?

The good news is that you don’t have to do a thing! These changes are all happening behind the scenes, so you won’t need to upgrade your agent to see the effect!

We hope this makes our Android service better and more reliable!

Thank you from the New Relic Mobile APM team!
