New Relic Essentials: Alerts

What are Alerts?

Alerts lets you set-up custom alerts policies and conditions that will trigger when a preset command/limit/fluctuation is reached. Allows customers to get notified in a variety of channels such as email or slack when the command/limit/fluctuation of key metrics is reached.

New Relic Alert docs I always recommend, whether you are new to Alerts or a Certified Pro are;

  • Introduction to alerts, get to know what alerts are and what they can do for you.
  • Create your first alert, let’s get stuck in and create your alerts.
  • Alert best practices, really helps you get to grips with the best tips for organizing your alerts.
  • New Relics Youtube account also has a video on creating alerts.
  • Also Ryan Veitch one has a great overall post on alerts, which I used as my one stop shop for alerts when I started.

Hi everyone!

In support we sometimes see customers asking how to monitor events or information from their apps that happen just once in a while and due to the dynamic or big intervals the alert conditions are not able to efficiently monitor them.

Working with these customers I was able to write this solution: [ Relic solution: Alert conditions to monitor once in a day (or more) events ] that combines the alert condition with a Synthetic monitor to make the monitoring + alert creation more efficient.

The best part of this idea is that it can be adapted to many different scenarios!

thanks

Rodrigo
