PHP Agent is using too much CPU and has potential memory leak

Hi, I’ve installed APM PHP agent into Amazon Linux 2 c5.2xlarge instance with RHEL7.
EC2 has nginx & PHP7.3.
We’ve set php-fpm to be static and running 450 processes.

Before we install APM agent, the CPU usage was around 20-25%.
However, after we deployed, CPU usage doubled to 50-60%.
We also started to see gradual increase of memory, which looks like memory leak.
After we disabled the agent, CPU load and memory leak stopped.

Does New Relic agent consume this much of CPU and memory under our circumstances?

  • APM Agent Language: PHP
  • APM Agent Version:
  • Operating System: RHEL7
  • Operating System Version: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.8 (Maipo)
  • Frameworks your app is using: Symfony (concrete5 CMS)

Thanks in advanced.

Hi there!

In order to check this CPU overhead, can you send me the output from the following commands?

  • What clock sources are being used?

    • cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/available_clocksource
  • What clock source is being used?

    • cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource.
  • What kind of timestamp counter is supported by the CPU?

    • cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep tsc
  • Is vDSO enabled?

    • strace php -m 2>&1 | grep gettimeofday
