Something's wrong with my New Relic plugin, how can I see the logs?

Answer:

Many times when things are not working correctly you can find more information by looking at the logs. Depending on the language of the plugin there are a couple of things you may need to do to get logging working correctly and to increase the logging level.

Java

  • copy the ‘config/example_logging.properties’ to ‘config/logging.properties’
  • change all instances of ‘INFO’ to ‘ALL’
  • uncomment all the ‘java.util.logging.FileHandler’ lines
  • restart the plugin and wait a few minutes
  • logs should be found in the directory in which the plugin runs

Ruby

  • uncomment the line ‘# verbose: 1’ by removing the # in ‘config/newrelic_plugin.yml’
  • restart the plugin and wait a few minutes
  • all output goes to stdout/stderr
