Using a different Browser for synthetics

Hi

I am looking to detect what browser New Relic synthetics are using but also trying to switch browser to something different i.e. firefox or edge. Do you have any documentation on this if its possible? I couldn’t find any

Hi @MWilliams3

Synthetics always uses Chrome.

You can set a custom user agent header, however that won’t change the browser that is used, it’ll just change how it is identified:

$browser.addHeader('User-Agent', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.6; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0; InfoPath.2; SLCC1; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) 3gpp-gba UNTRUSTED/1.0');
$browser.get('http://httpbin.org/user-agent');

Here’s an example :arrow_up:

Thanks Ryan, So does the above do anything at all? The problem I have is a page is not loading using the synthetics chrome browser at all…

Hmm, do you have a link to a synthetics failure / screenshot of what happens with that monitor at failure time?

Also, should the site be accessible to Chrome users? Is the site publicly accessible?

Can I send the URL to you privately? I have created a synthetic for just loading the page and happy to show you the differences.

Sure! If you share a link to the New Relic synthetics monitor here, only NR admins and users in your account will have access to it. But if not, you can click my profile photo to see a ‘Message’ button, that’ll let you private message me.

Thanks, I’ve sent you a message
